Congenital anomalies of kidney and urinary tract (CAKUT) are the leading cause of end stage renal disease (ESRD) in children. CAKUT represents a wide spectrum of isolated unilateral or bilateral malformations. We are interested in discovering the causes of chronic renal failure following congenital obstruction of the urinary tract. We study obstructive uropathies in vitro and in vivo using newborn rodents. Our research group aims to identify molecular mechanisms, specific signaling pathways and mediators of inflammation and fibrosis in the developing kidney with obstruction. Our goal is to improve diagnostic and therapeutic strategies in children with CAKUT.
